How do I feel about capital punishment? The Bible gives guidance in this situation: “Because sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.” (Ecclesiastes 8:11)
A person who deliberately takes another person’s life deserves the death penalty. That should not be up for debate in a civilized society. However, the method of capital punishment should be changed to be more humane for everyone concerned.
The condemned should be strapped to a chair in a small, airtight, closet-sized room and left alone to breathe himself or herself to death by oxygen starvation.
Death is painless. The condemned simply drifts to unconsciousness and eventually to death. No one has to fire a bullet or push a button to inject chemicals, and taxpayers do not have to pay a fortune to carry out the sentence.
The condemned simply executes himself or herself by breathing while he or she is left alone with his or her thoughts until consciousness and life departs.
That is biblical justice, imo.
