Sex, Marriage, LGBTQ+, etc.

Although these are not topics that normally come up in the exposition of prophecy and chronology featured on this website, a few visitors have asked me to comment on the matter of sexual conduct permitted for Christian believers, the Bible’s definition of marriage, and the modern LGBTQ+ movement. Here is my understanding of what the Holy Bible says about those topics:

Sexual conduct between two individuals is permitted only within the framework of a biblical marriage.

Hebrews 13:4 – “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”
1 Corinthians 6:18 – “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.”
1 Corinthians 7:2 – “Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”
Exodus 20:14 – “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” (Part of the Ten Commandments)
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 – “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.”

Biblical marriage is a physical and spiritual union between one male and one female.

Genesis 1:27-28 – “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.”
Genesis 2:24 – “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Matthew 19:4-6 – “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Jesus quoting Genesis)
Leviticus 18:22 – “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”

Conclusion: The above brief outline covers everything a Christain who desires to be obedient to the Word of God and pleasing to Him really needs to know to answer their questions about what constitutes Bible-based sexual conduct and Christian marriage.

Postscript—The test for Christians in this modern age centers on love. The first commandment says, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Found in the Book of Exodus, it teaches that God must remain the supreme priority and focus of love in a person’s life. As Christians, we believe that Jesus is the Word—the embodiment of Scripture, the Word made flesh. Jesus said that the way we show love for Him is by keeping His commandments. This means honoring the full counsel of God revealed through both the Old and New Testaments. The New Covenant has replaced the Old Covenant as the redemptive path—Jesus being the final sacrifice—but the moral codes still apply. Many progressives view same-sex marriage and the ordination of practicing LGBTQ persons as expressions of love, yet these actions do not align with showing love for Jesus above all else. Ultimately, it comes down to this: Do we, as Christians, love God and His ways more than we love the ways of man? If we do, we will honor what the Word says about faith and practice. As Paul instructed Timothy, “Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:13). When doctrine is subordinated to manmade social trends, the church risks separation—not merely from one another, but more importantly from God Himself.
